#55 Meet Grace – Real People Real Lives. #FASD

Day 55 International Red Shoes Rock Virtual Relay Race – Congratulations to Grace from USA!

Hi Grace! My name is Mac and we’re going to be friends today to run around the world. Yesterday we used Shianna’s bike – do you have a horse we could ride – this running is a lot more work than I thought it would be. Let’s get a horse!

MEET GRACE – I am 13 years old. I was adopted at 18 months. I have FAS. I love animals and my favorite things to do are help take care of my cats, dogs, turtles and I go to horsemanship, which helps me relax a lot. Horses are wonderful. I am good at working in the garden with my mom and watering flowers too.

STRENGTHS – I like to sing and swim and play games. My family and God are special to me. I am getting better at reading and I am proud about that. I worked very hard.

STRUGGLES – I have a hard time with thinking and making good choices. Learning takes a really long time and I get frustrated easily. I want to do the right thing but I do things before I think what will happen. I get excited really easily and it’s hard to calm down. I don’t understand a lot of what people say and that’s hard because they think I do. I don’t tell them I don’t understand because I’m not sure what to do. I worry about what will happen if my parents aren’t here to help me.

WISH – I wish people would know that I don’t want to do wrong things. I wish I could remember things I learned before so I wouldn’t do it again. I really wonder what I would be like if my birth mom never drank.

FROM MOM – I would add in there that she is home schooled and that has been helpful to go at her pace. The writings above are her thoughts and feeling and her mom helped her organize into paragraphs to make sense. She still struggles with writing and spelling and she is working on that.
