Welcome to our Day 10 Countdown at Red Shoes Rock for FASDay on September 9. We’ve tied our RedShoesRock shoes up and are ready to move. Actually our experts living with FASD have been moving and shaking about FASD in their communities and families for their lifetimes. Let’s roll, walk, wheel, jump! Let’s make some movement! Mac introduces you today to his new friend Ervin!
MEET ERVIN – Ervin loves to draw and listen to stories. He loves talking to people and listening to music. He has been home schooled and supported by his loving family since his adoption with his sister. His family has worked hard to research and advocate for him so that they could support him in his struggles related to his FAS and trauma he sustained before
ERVIN’S STORY – sustained trauma, foster care in Latvia during summers & weekends, in boarding school/institution for children with disabilities during the week, and adopted into our family at age 9. He has been homeschooled and supported by his loving family since then. His family has worked hard to research and advocate for him so that they could support him in his struggles related to his FAS and trauma he sustained before adoption.
STRENGTHS – He loves to draw and play music. He enjoys talking with people and listening to stories.
STRUGGLES – Full FAS, secondary autism, PTSD, language processing challenges, strabismus.
ERVIN’S WISH – He wishes for women to not drink alcohol when they’re pregnant.
Ligia and Ervin are bio sibs who were adopted at same time. We were the 2nd American family to host them through a hosting program. Then we pursued their adoption. We got their official diagnosis of FAS after we adopted them but knew that they both were at risk, in particular Ligia, as she was very small and both had facial features of FAS.
